Dove Cottage is a 2 bedroom, 2 bath, A-Frame home located in the Osceola Forest. Just 40 miles from Gainesville, Florida, home of the "Gators", it offers easy access to over 30 crystal clear springs that bubble up from underground. Hiking, kayaking, and fishing are popular activities as well as ATVing in the backwoods trails that wind for miles behind the house. Geocasching is another popular past time for guests as there are hundreds of casches hidden behind the cabin. It sits on an acre of land that snugs up against the forest, where deer and wild turkey are frequently seen, and trails behind the house wind for miles into the forest.
Fishing the old time way... There's several small lakes back in the forest, about a five minute's walk away, and we have a reel and rod as well as several cane poles for fishing. You'll just have to dig worms or buy bait and line. We have a hoe waiting for you... :-)
It comes fully furnished, including; all furniture, kitchen pots, pans, dishes, linens, sheets, towels. All you need to bring is your clothes.
Dove Cottage is located deep in what is known as Osceola Estates, a small country community of about 45 homes that sit in a niche that is carved out of the Osceola National Forest.
Downstairs is a living, dining, kitchen, a front and back deck (screened in), one bedroom and bath. Upstairs is one bedroom and bath, and has a screened in deck on the front.
The downstairs bedroom has a queen size bed, and bath has a tub/shower combo, and the upstairs bedroom can be setup as a California king, or two extra-long twins, and has a walk-in shower. There is also a mother-in-law cottage that will sleep several that will be available by Thanksgiving, if you would like to rent it for a larger group then.
There's a propane stove, microwave, coffeepot, and such, with seating for up to 4, plus extra dishes if you want to setup a picnic outside and such. The upstairs bedroom has a 32 inch flat screen TV.
It's very peaceful and quiet out here. I love it, particularly in the fall and winter. Summer brings lots of mosquitoes and is not the perfect time unless you plan on staying inside a lot, that's why I charge less then. We do have central air and heat, as well as the gas fireplace.
The house is fully furnished with everything you should need, except food and clothes.
We have central air and heat, but also have the propane fireplace, if you'd like to have a fire. There's also lots of bird seed here if you'd like to put it out for the birds. We frequently have the Pilieated woodpecker in the yard as well as the occasional hawk and egret. Once in a while there will be rabbits, possum and raccoon. And, if you are an early riser, the deer are in the yard pretty much everyday about 5am.
For those who must have their electronics (like me :-) The living room has a 42 inch SMART TV, with Netflix, Pandora and such on it, and the bedroom upstairs has a 32 inch SMART TV. We have Direct TV, the second level package, I also have Satellite for internet. We are too far out for cable or dsl. There's also a lot of books for reading. Yes.. some people do still read. We have many of the classics there for you.
We also have deer viewing.. each morning, get up early, before the sunrise, and make your coffee quietly and go to the upper deck and relax. You're sure to see them slowly grazing on the flowers, stopping, flicking their ears at every little noise.
